Octo Octa

FIRST HE WANTED to see you, now you left him with that deep hurt.

Sir Michael Morrison aka Octo Octa, the Brooklyn beast of beats churning out house grooves for 100% Silk, has emerged from the underground with the Oh Love 12″, the follow-up to his essential Let Me Feel You EP that came out late last year.

Ghostly vocals reminiscent of Amanda Brown flitter through this teaser video for “Deep Hurt”, which isn’t  surprising, considering Octo Octa just teamed up with LA Vampires for the latest in their collaborative projects, Freedom 2K, also out now on 100% Silk.

The Silk seamstresses are on the trail touring Europe this summer, with all roads leading to Sonar, so be sure to catch them in a town near you EU readers.

In the meantime, let your Octo hang low.

NEWS OF THE upcoming LA Vampires collaboration with Octo Octa broke over the last few weeks when the crew dropped “Wherever, Boy“, off their 12” due out sometime this month of May.

Now, the 100% Silk team brings us a new video, “Freedom 2K“, directed by Benjamin Shearn, starring Amanda & Britt Brown + friends.

Wherever, Boy

NEW TRACK FLOATING in from the 100% Silk / Not Not Fun crew. LA Vampires, who in the past collaborated with Zola Jesus, Ital, and Matrix Metals, teams up with fellow Silk-r Octo Octa this time around, revealing the first cut, “Wherever, Boy”, off their upcoming 12″, due May-ish on 100% Silk.

LA Vampires, like Maria Minerva in some respects, falls in a gray area between the dancy Silk aesthetic and drone zone of NNF. “Wherever, Boy” starts off with a classic house progression, something you might’ve heard at The Warehouse in Chicago back in the day. The track quickly swirls into a blizzard of synths and Amanda Brown’s vampish vocals, a colorful soundscape of club confusion and allusion.

For the LA friends, be sure to catch Octo Octa (live LA debut!), along with Magic Touch, LA Vampires, Bobby Browser, and Silk newbie Roche May 19th in Silverlake.

Worth The Try

I’m Trying

SO EXCITED TO bring you a track that’s been raging nonstop on jazner‘s turntable, one that Britt from 100% Silk notes was a major late night after party dance-floor hit on his and Amanda’s recent trip to Australia, and ranks as one of the couple’s favorite silk-y tracks put out to date – Octo Octa’s “I’m Trying” off their latest 12″ maxi-single, Let Me See You.

Pulsing four-on-the-floor drums build a pleasurable disco anxiety that can only be relieved by flaunting one’s catalog of dance moves for all the freaks playing in the nocturnal underground.  Illuminated retro synths sprinkle glittery glam that’s full of sass and DIY couture attitude, backed by choppy vocals relenting the need to just ‘let it go’ – and why not heed the call?

“I’m Trying” rivals Magic Touch’s “Clubhouse” as 100% Silk’s most raucous, club friendly banger, set to torch dance-floors abalze with neon neuromance.  Check it out for yourself.

CUTTING TO THE chase, jazner is just moments away from departing for Burning Man 2011 – Rites Of Passage, meaning this site will be on hiatus for the next week.  Don’t fret though, here are a few highlights from the past week as well as a couple jamz that will be echoing throughout the playa.

  • SHLOHMO dropped his FACT mix this past Friday, take a listen below, and don’t forget to peep the interview and obscure tracklist that sets a new precedent for FACT mixes
  • 100% Silk has some new releases that jazner can’t wait to dive into during his decompression from the Burn.  Here’s Octo Octa‘s smurfy disco cut off their latest 12″

Don’t forget Magic Touch‘s debauchee video for “I Can Feel The Heat”, so apropos for the Black Rock Desert
  • Our good friend Altitude Sickness, who will be taking his famous tupperware monome to the playa, gives us a sneak peak of some new mash-up beats and customized visuals in his latest video for Dublab, “Dublabdub”.
  • And finally, a new jam from Ryan York (aka Asura) entitled “If I Am This Forest”, a crystal quartz glitterati cut off good friend Brian Simon’s label Non Projects.

Hope you enjoy all this new music.  Keep in touch, when we’re back there’ll be more in store to satiate your dusty eardrums!

Couldn’t leave for the playa with out giving respect to disco queen Cheryl Lynn – see you @ BRC!!! )*(
